Here is an intriguing article from Searcher Magazine that is worth thinking about: should we librarians, as the author proposes, focus on our core print collections and buildings and give up the idea of creating digital libraries? Read for yourself. I'd be interested in your feedback. Searcher article: Rise and Fall of the Library Empire

Welcome Back! What a whirlwind summer it's been. We've accomplished a lot, thanks to the efforts of the entire team of library staff. We have a new webpage design, which will be continuously improved upon as we receive student input and ideas in the coming semester. We also have improved chat reference, and now have a searchable knowledge base to provide information on library services and resources. The School of Business Library has a new furniture arrangement that will be more functional and inviting. Look for more improvements as the school year begins. Over the summer, I have been tracking the accomplishments of faculty and expect to issue version 2 of the Faculty Bibliography, so stay tuned. Please don't hesitate to utilize your Contact librarian if you have any questions. And finally, please welcome our new Evening Reference Assistant Maria Truskey, who is a student in the University of Pittsburgh's degree program for library science (my alma mater!). Have a great semester!

The semester is over, time to get ready for summer library projects! The library staff wish everyone a restful, restorative and safe vacation. My personal plans include a trip to my favorite shore retreat in Cape May, New Jersey. I am looking forward to walking the beach with my dogs, eating at Louisa's restaurant, and cycling. Hopefully, I'll return a bit trimmer and healthier than I feel at the moment. If you have vacation plans that include reading (there is nothing lovelier than reading a great book while toasting your toes in the warm sand, IMHO), contact a librarian for a book recommendation, or stop by either library location's Browsing or New Books sections. If you are a mystery fan, I can recommend something I read recently, The Silver Pigs by Lindsay Davis, set in Rome in 70 A.D. Well written and engaging characters. Thanks to Ginny Polley for recommending this: I'm now hooked on the series. Happy vacation, everyone!

Welcome back!

We are on the cusp of a new year and a new semester at Stevenson U. May it be for you, faculty and students, a time of insight and creativity, laughter and joy! I am looking forward to hearing Michael Pollan, author of The Omnivore's Dilemma, on January 17th. As many of you know, I have always been interested in healthy food, in particular, vegetarian choices, so this speaker will be of great interest. I am also giving a Booktalk on one of my favorite guilty pleasure authors, Sue Grafton, who just came out with V is for Vengeance. The book was quite a page-turner, so this discussion will be a lot of fun. Keep in mind that the library staff are ready and willing to help with your research needs. Have a great semester!
